Dear Dumplin,
You were sick this past Halloween and missed your Halloween parade at school. I was so disappointed for you. On the other hand, I was so thankful that you had no idea all of the candy you were missing! I did give your Halloween costume to you to wear and you loved i! The moment that touched me the most? How you said thank you.
“Dumplin, I have a surprise for you.”
“Surprise for me Mommy?”
“Yes, baby.”
“Well what is it?”
“Come see.”
“Where is it?”
“Come see.”
“It’s Halloween baby. Do you know what that means?”
“I don’t know.”
“You get to wear a costume.”
“Costume?”
“Yes baby, you get to wear Doc McStuffins!!!” I show you the costume and your eyes light up.
“DOC MCSTUFFINS!!!!! Oh thank you Mommy, thank you soooo much! This is gonna be awesome!!!!”
And then you proceeded to scream at the top of your lungs and jump up and down. Fever, cough, and runny nose included. It was such a small gesture. No parade, no trick or treating, just wearing your costume around the house and telling your Dad and me “I’m a Doctor! Let me hear your heart!” was all you needed. You carried your stethoscope and your Doctor’s bag all around the house. Did I mention that you aren’t three years old yet ? My little old lady… I just smiled and absorbed it. That’s all I could do. Thank you for thanking me.
Love,
Mama
