I truly believe that passions and loves were put into our spirits by the Most High. People don’t have to understand why you love something. I’m your Mother, and even I don’t need to understand why you will love certain things. I cannot even begin to imagine the blessings that can be bestowed upon you if you follow your gifts and your passions. Lisa Price, Founder of Carol’s Daughter, and Myleik Teele, Founder of CurlBox are two fantastic examples of this.
Lisa Price has a passion for fragrance. She loves anything that smells good and started to mix hair and body concoctions in her kitchen. Carol’s Daughter was born and today it is a multi-million dollar beauty brand. Myleik Teele has a love for natural hair and beauty products. She started a monthly natural hair subscription service in her house. Today, she is globally recognized as a phenomenal entrepreneur. Who knew that loving things that smell good and loving to play in hair products could result in this level of success? I doubt anyone could have foreseen the accomplishments Lisa Price and Myleik Teele would achieve. They had a vision and I want you to know that’s all they needed. They needed vision, and they needed hard work but remember that hard work doesn’t feel hard when you love what you are doing.
A time may come when you want to do something and I simply will not understand. I won’t get it at all and I may not support you. That’s ok. Work hard and prove me wrong if need be. Usually, when parents stop their kids from doing something, it is out of fear that they will struggle, suffer, or get hurt. Know this. Remember this. The fear comes from a place of love. You may have to struggle and experience pain along your journey. It will make you strong. Mistakes are really just practice so don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
There is a quote from the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness” I want you to remember. Will Smith says,
“Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something. Not even me. You got a dream? You gotta protect it. When people can’t do something themselves, they’re gonna tell you that you can’t do it. You want something? Go get it. Period.”
Read this quote. Memorize it. Look at this video of Lisa Price and Myleik Teele. Let it be a reminder of what the future can hold. Stay focused and work hard. You may love the end result!
