Ever since I found out I was going to have a girl, I’ve been obsessed with the idea of making sure that she knows certain things without a doubt. I want her to know that she is beautiful, strong, smart, worthy, and blessed. She’s very young now, but I know that there comes a point in every girl’s life when she doesn’t only listen to her parents. She now hears the voices of classmates, friends, and the rest of the world. I want to set up avenues to help her resolve her growing pains. This blog is the result of those restless nights. I want to write to her now so that she has something to refer to when she just doesn’t remember the lessons I will have taught her. Perhaps, she will read people’s comments and see that she is not alone. I love her. She’s my angel, my heart, and my Dumplin.
My name is Joey. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications with a minor in African-American studies. I’m a paralegal by day, a blogger by night, a mama and wife all the time, and by twilight, I try to sleep! That doesn’t always happen though…
These are letters to my daughter.
